i come to this here place
a border crossing between this'un
    n that'un
after eatin’ some kinda magik-berry,
the antidote for distant sorrows, so said ---

it is an early morning, self-hating
n fearsome lonesome ---

i tie my boots n i set my watch ---
but i have a bad suspicion ---
i'll have an ache n a kink after the
    magik enters my mouth

which is whut i came here with --- to begin ---
an ache n a kink n a bad suspicion of ever’thing
which is why i took the berry

n now a startled deer is a-runnin’ in my knotted
     up guts
n troops is marching in thar---
    Half mad with rabies — n
all of them a-dancin to a propulsive
    cash mad reggae, h’it figures n i come to this here place
a crossin’ between this-un n that-un

n now i wait fer that-un to come nex,
sez th’ lonely Citizen of Fairy Tale Town
to th' empty echoing welfare apartment
     Goldilocks just now moved on out of

this c’here “x-try” early A. M....
