Please tell us a little bit about your most recent work.
The book that I have out is titled I Do It for the Love of It. A novel about a man recently being released from prison and trying to come up with some money to launch his own record label with twist and turns that becomes a part of his journey to get to the top.
What was your motivation for writing it?
To be honest my actual motivation for writing the book came from reading a lot of novels that I thought I could myself do a better job at writing one.
Are you currently working on any side projects? Tell us a little bit about your other work.
Right now I’m coming out with a soundtrack to all three books that will be called, not Mixtape, but the HixTape.
What motivated you to become a writer?
What actually motivated me was the reason I gave in question 2. I just felt as though I could do a better job at telling a story than what I had been reading.
Do you have any unique writing rituals?
No I don’t. Being new and freshly birthed into this literary industry I have yet to develop a writing rituals.
Do you feel close to your characters? If yes, how so? If no, how do you maintain a distance?
Well yes because a lot of my book were based from actual events and people, just fictional names.
Do you find it difficult to maintain a career as a writer?
As of right now I don’t feel as though writing for me is a career, just something I dabbled at and others found my story interesting. Also I’m brand new in the literary industry and have yet to establish a name for myself.
Tell us about your day jobs.
My day job is actually going to school and learning how to edit videos. I am majoring in Television Broadcasting.
When it comes to developing a plot and the characters where do you find your inspiration?
Being as though this is my first book out now I used real life as my motivation and characters I used some real people characteristics as motivation. So it was really easy for me because I knew who and what I was talking about.
What would you like to tell your readers?
For those that have actually taken a chance on me first and foremost I’d like to say thank you and enjoy, plus there’s more to come.
Carl Hicks hails from D.C. Though he always had a love for writing, he found the time and discipline to do so in a jail cell when he was sentenced to 5 years in prison for armed robbery. After being assaulted and comatose for two months, he was medically paroled with all of his belongings being shipped home. His debut novel, “I do it for the Love of it” was among those things. He briefly contemplated self-publishing the title but found a home with the PenBullies family. With his lyrical ability combined, he hopes to entice his readers with his way of words.
